why settle for second-best? because they're either cheap or they're free

mood :: happy (i guess)

artful dodger feat. craig david - re-rewind
random thought :: i wonder how the first test-rider of an "anchor's away"-type ride felt.

i learned three things today: 1) my cousin makes excellent cake (of course anyone can make refridgerated cake. but that doesn't deny the fact that i mercilessly ate what's left of it in the fridge) 2) second-rate amusement parks aren't really THAT bad and 3) i re-discovered the pleasures of bargain shopping.

today was the BPI fair (my dad works for the bank *cut to a scene where the friendly canteen personnel back at manresa and precious, my blockmate, all have one thing to say: "wow. parating bago ang pera mo ah." haha!*) and this year was a little interesting: free rides at an amusement park. i prefer calling it an 'amusment park'. okay, so it was star city. so what? at least all the rides were free. what better way to spend a saturday than a plethora of free rides over at star city. whooopeee. (sense sarcasm? not really. maybe a little. i was still a little bummed out that our EK block thing didn't push through). just look on the brighter side: the rides were free (if there was such a thing as over-redundancy, this is it). of course then i didn't think i'd feel happy about it at the end of the day.

unfortunately my mom couldn't go with us. she gets terrible migraines when it's really hot outside. worse, it might lead to hypertensive attacks. it's a sad thing really. but even if she wasn't suffering from a headache the night before, i doubt she'll be crazy about the thrillseeking rides like the viking and the cyclone, which i really dig. it would've been fun having her there, though. so that morning, me, my dad, my brother and his girlfriend (and future wife), ate trina, went in the gates and tried to make the most out of the free tickets.

we went on a couple of rides (i liked the 'viking' the most. it was sort of an 'anchor's away' rip-off), went inside 2 horror houses (we just couldn't get enough. let me tell you something, i don't cuss a lot. mainly because i don't feel like speaking profanity and it doesn't sound right coming from me [you know what i mean? some people try really hard to use cuss words even if they look and sound ridiculous doing it]. rare are the times you'll here one from me. inside the first horror house, i landed a solid tagalog one after a freaky mechanical ghoul shocked the wits out of me. solido at malutong! haha!), splurged on arcade tokens (my brother actually won a stuffed toy for ate trina with one of those 'grab-a-toy' machines. oh, and i think we almost spent half of our money on the basketball shoot-out machines. at least i got my pulse back), and tried out every conceivable sideshow. in between all those was the inevitable walking. i could still feel slight pain from my lower back and all the walking seemed to make it numb. by noon we were all exhausted... from walking, that is.

after having lunch (the ever-famous rice in a box), we decided we'd just go bargain shopping. and for the first time in a long time, nakatawad na naman ako haha. this time, for shoes. i got it for 300 bucks instead of 450 ata. they look like the original talaga but only time will tell if they'll pass the test of quality. still, shoes are shoes.

we left for home at around 5 na. it was a tiring yet fun day. that is, i don't mind getting wasted (as in getting tired from all the walking) as long as i'm enjoying myself.
